The History Behind Moms United in Business

This is my story. This is the history behind how MUIB came into being.

Back in 1999, I was a lonely, isolated SAHM. I had married my "junior" high school sweetheart (I was the ripe old age of 13 when we met!) and we had just been transferred to a rural NC county due to his job. I had a little one at home, and after helping my husband get established in the career he had always dreamed of, it was my turn. At least I thought it was.

I had been writing, and had just had an article approved for publication for a Christian children's magazine. I also had a computer my dad had pieced together for me, and "borrowed" his online account to connect to the outside world via this "new" thing called the internet. At the time, the internet was still fairly new to the masses, and I was so excited to have a connection with the outside world!

I started a site I called "Mommy Pals at Home". Kinda silly now that I think of it, but back then SAHMs and WAHMs were not as common online as they are now! Fate took over, and I found myself a single Mom to a 3 year old. My dreams, once again, had to be put on hold.

I was thrown into the working world. Unprepared, yet motivated. I was unable to finish college due to taking care of my sick Mom, and my job choices were limited. Yet, I took some night classes and ended up becoming a Medical Office Manager. A job that paid fairly well, and had benefits.

I could go on and on about the long road I went down, but I will spare you. I know your free time is limited! Long story short, Moms United was created in my spare time as I worked as a single mom trying to make ends meet.

Moms United actually began as an organization of volunteers. Our motto was, "Enhancing Lives, One Child at a Time.". We sent cards, letters (and gifts) of love and inspiration to chronically and/or terminally ill children. It was a huge success! However, my sister (and best friend) was my partner. Her husband is a soldier and was called to duty, and they were tranferred to Georgia. The mail was too much for me to handle alone and sadly, I was forced to shut it down.

However, I could not let go of the friendships and contacts I had made from Moms United. Most were struggling WAHMs, struggling to stay home with their kids.

Out of that, Moms United in Business was born!

For me, MUIB is a passion and a calling. I am not sure where this is going, or what it might lead to. What I do know is that God's hand is in this, otherwise I would have given up long ago!
I am now happily remarried, and am a SAHM to a tween a toddler, and an infant (ALL girls!!). Yet the passion for MUIB is still there.

I have now taken on a partner, Lori Homeyer. She said she felt led to join me on this journey. I prayed for years to find someone who felt led to join me on this journey...it took awhile, but God did indeed answer my prayers (in HIS time, not mine!).

So, my friend. Here we are. I tell you all of this to let you know that MUIB is here to stay. Like I said, I am unsure as to where all of this is going, but if you are here, you are meant to take this journey with me.

I welcome you with open arms, and an open heart. I know there are a lot of other WAHM groups and sites out there. I can't compete with that. All I can tell you is that my heart is in this endeavor, and that God has a purpose for this organization. Honestly, I am not sure what that is. However, I have faith. I have faith that He will lead this in the way it is meant to go.

Again, I welcome you on this journey! It has been amazing so far, and I have all ideas it is only going to get better from here! Here's to OUR success, my friend...in life and in business!

In Friendship,
~Jenn
